A wardrobe must ask any fashion editor. The best jeans are the only item you will ever need in your life. Good quality jeans will last you through all seasons and work well with your existing pieces.
You can choose three styles if you aren’t sure which one to wear: high-waisted wide-leg, straight-leg mum jeans, or a great skinny pair.
It’s easy to create any outfit from these pieces. A t-shirt, an oversized jacket, a cashmere sweater, or a top can be added to create three easy day-to-night outfits. You can accessorize with heels, chunky boots, or trainers.
This wardrobe staple is timeless, but it does tend to be in fashion at different times throughout the year. Vestiaire Collective reports a “+54% rise in denim search searches over the past 2 weeks compared to last years.” With brands such as Diesel and Prada being influential, the latter “with its Glenn Martens-inspired designs driving a massive +288% growth in the same time period.”
It cannot be easy to shop for jeans. You will need to try many styles before finding the right one. To make shopping easier, I have searched my favourite high-street denim brands and designer labels to find the best trousers for everyone.
Farrah May Archer, the Stitch Fix UK Styling Team Leader, said that “Unsurprisingly” this season, denim trends are playing with Y2K references and 90’s references on runways like Blumarine as well as the high street. You can embrace nostalgia now and show your style with denim, such as extreme styles, cool cargos, or maximalist looks.
“Meanwhile we are also seeing the understated straight-leg making a comeback, and in my view, this is one of the most versatile jeans.”
How to select the perfect jeans
Farrah May advises that it is important to determine your budget, fit, and style preference before buying. “When I receive a request from Stitch Fix customers for a pair of denim jeans, I pay attention to the sizing to find the right fit. You want to make sure the jeans fit perfectly if you buy a pair of jeans.
How can I extend the life of my jeans?
You want them to last as long as you can after you have found the perfect pair. This guide will show you how to keep your jeans from getting too baggy. Farrah May’s tips are worth a look before you start reading.
My main tip is not to wash your jeans too often so that it retains their shape and colour. High temperatures can damage denim fibres and cause them to become brittle. I recommend drying your jeans by air drying.
What jeans are best for me?
Consider your body measurements when deciding which style is best for you. A high waist will flatter a curvy body.
Are you concerned about your height? Many brands, such as Levi’s or M&S, offer many styles in different lengths. Cropped styles that show the ankle will enhance the frame for those 5ft and under.
